First the King County Library System is AWESOME! They let you look at their databases from home as long as you have your library card number. At the Missoula Public Library you had to physically go in and look at the news papers on old micro film and they usually didn't have what I needed. It was a lot of effort without much reward.
I've been looking off and on for some answers to my Great Grandfather's death. I haven't found exactly what I've been searching for but I think I'm getting closer. I actually may never learn the things I wish I knew about it.
Here is what I know...My Grandpa told me stories of walking down a dirt road with one of his friends and hearing an explosion. They turned around and the house that their fathers were in was what had exploded. The boys started running back up the road but by the time they reached the house it had already burnt down to the ground. My Grandpa was just 13 and it was really hard on him. He didn't like to talk about it much and he got chocked up when he did. I was always curious about the fire. How did it happen? Why would a house explode? Apparently the men were in the house drinking and there was speculation of suicide but my Grandpa would turn red even at the slightest suggestion of that. Which probably piqued my interest more.
While I lived in Montana I sent in some paperwork to get his death certificate from WA state and they sent me my money back and said they couldn't find it. I had tried to find things online but my efforts never produced anything. I kept thinking now that I actually live in this state it might be easier to find something about it. Today I had no problem! I logged into KCLS and typed in my search criteria and found these...
